Day 21: 06.05.18 2100 UTC, 1200 BoatTime (UTC-9)
Position: 10:07S 134:10W COG: 260 SOG: 5,6 (average 24 hrs) Wind: 5-10 kn E Sailed distance: 2769 Sailed last 24 hours: 135 Distance to Fatu Hiva: 269 (great circle line, updated)
Weather: Nice! But not enough wind to keep up the speed going straight down wind. Some rain showers during the night.
Still too little wind to sail straight down wind (wing on wing). We are burning diesel as long as we have to continue going straight. When there is no more diesel (apart from a spare 20L can) we will have to sail the rest. Hopefully with more wind than we are experiencing right now. The GRIB files also suggests some more wind tomorrow… Our positive guestimates on diesel consumption tell us that we should barely be alright, if we pick up enough wind Monday morning.
Less than 300 nm miles left. If we manage to keep our current average speed we will arrive Fatu Hiva Tuesday before dark. If not Wednesday. Almost there! We will have to really enjoy these last couple of days and night watches.
Sea state: 1.0 – 1.5 m swell from E.
Fishing: Caught a nice bonito yesterday evening. Not as big as the last one, but plenty for lunch and dinner today.
CsB still within sight.
All is well.
