Day 4: 20.08.18 2200 UTC, 1200 BoatTime (UTC-10)
Position: 17:06S 158:34W
COG: 265 SOG: 5.4 (average 24 hrs) Wind: 5 – 25 kn N, NW, W, SW, S ans SE Sailed distance: 525 nm Sailed last 24 hours: 130 nm Distance to Tonga: 890 nm
Weather: Nice, clear sky until hitting the trough. Then squally and cloudy for about 6 hrs. Now clear again.
A lot of engine when the wind died and turned north and west, but managed to sail a bit on and off. We managed to avoid all the squalls that were lined up in the trough. I sill can not believe how that happened, but we were spared:). Just got some wind so we could sail through the night on port tack going west. In the morning the wind turned to the south and we kept the port tack until our bow pointed towards Tonga. Now the wind is turning a bit more so we are beam reaching with good speed. The sea is still a bit messy and coming from the south/southwest, but that is scheduled to change for the better.
Sea state: 0,5 – 1,5 m.
Fishing: no news.
All is well. Happy sailing to our friends out there.
